Pumping Your Septic Tank: When should you do it?

RCI Septic Service • February 28, 2023

There is more to pumping your septic tank than you may realize. We complete a Service Order for every tank we pump and will leave you a copy. We recommend pumping your tank on the following schedule:

1-2 Occupants – Every 3 Years

3-4 Occupants – Every 2 Years

5+ Occupants – Every Year

To access the tank, if the cover is not dug up already or if there is not a riser, we will dig to access the cover for a fee. When pumping your tank, we pump the solids off the top of the tank and then remove all sludge, back-flushing if necessary to assure all solids and sludge are removed. On the service order we note the following information for your records:

  • Location of tank
  • Size of tank
  • We note if it is a pump system
  • We note if your system has a filter and clean it free of charge at time of service
  • Condition of septage – normal, all liquid, all solid
  • We note if there is liquid running back in from leach field
  • We note the condition of the tank, if it’s OK or overdue for pumping
  • We note the condition of the baffles if visible from the exposed cover

Payment is due at the time of service and arrangements are made with the home owner. We keep records in our system of your tank location, condition and will send a reminder postcard before your tank is due for the next pumping. We are a full service company, installing and repairing tanks, systems, etc. All findings are reviewed with the home owner and arrangements can easily be made if your tank or system needs any repair work or replacement.
